Expose students to the fragrance of soil: Academics
TNN | Feb 2, 2019, 23:46 ISTUdhagamandalam: Teachers should inspire students to do physical work and expose them to the fragrance of soil, observed the educational experts, who participated in ‘Educators’ Meet -2019’, a one-day workshop held for the teaching community in the Nilgiris.
Principals and teachers from schools across the Nilgiris took part in the event and shared thoughts on the topic of the workshop, ‘Future-ready School’.
Addressing the gathering, G Balasubramanian, former academic director of the Central Board of Secondary Education said, “Future brings a sense of insecurity and a sense of uncertainty as well. Children’s mind should not be filled with data. Teachers should concentrate on the creative skill of every child. For that, synthesizing knowledge from the childhood is very important.”
“A classroom is nothing but an energy management system. Teachers should mainly focus on channelizing the energy of the children, instead on preparing them for certification,” he added.
Management consultant PS Sunder said, “Technology is more a tool, not a substitute for a teacher. Everyone has been bestowed with something. It is the responsibility of the teachers to bring out that element from children.”
Chairman of the St.Jude’s Pblic School in Kotagiri Dhanaraj said, “People have developed an aversion towards soil. The world is now filled with electronic pollution.”
Sister Lurde Mary, a teacher from Nazareth Convent in Ooty, said the programme was motivating and it advocated the necessary changes that need to be made in the education system.
Organised by Theteacher.in, an online initiative, the one-day meet was held at St.Jude’s Public School in Kotagiri.
