ACB raids: Shirastedar among four held for graft in Karwar, Ballari
TNN | Feb 2, 2019, 21:45 ISTKarwar/ Ballari: The sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested Suresh Uppunda, a shirastedar working at the records section of Bhoomi Kendra at Kumta taluk.
With many cases of corruption filed against Suresh, the sleuths laid a trap and caught him red-handed while accepting bribe. Suresh had allegedly demanded Rs 2,000 from Girish to include the names of his family members in land records. Girish later complained to ACB in this regard.
ACB DSP Girish and other officials raided the office and arrested Suresh. The bribe amount received by Suresh has been recovered from him.
In Ballari, the sleuths raided two places and arrested three persons and sent them in judicial custody.
The arrested are M Mahantesh, 46, first-division clerk, Venkatesh Nayk, 45, superintendent at the deputy director of public instruction (DDPI) office in Ballari. They had allegedly demanded money to issue appointment and placement orders to Raghu Naika after he was appointmented to Siruguppa Govt School.
When the duo allegedly refused to give the orders without being paid (bribe), Raghu, a resident of Tanda in Ballari taluk, equipped with documentary evidence, complained to ACB. Investigating officer Sridhar Doddi said the duo called Raghu over phone and demanded bribe after the office hours on Thursday evening. “We trapped them when the complainant was paying them,” he said, adding that they have been sent in judicial custody.
In another raid, ACB trapped Revanasiddappa, 48, junior engineer attached to the ZP who also has the additional charge of rural drinking water scheme at Kudiligi in Ballari district.
He was trapped while taking bribe from a villager on Friday.
Gollara Bheemaiah, a resident of K Rayapura village in Kudligi taluk, had constructed Mallamma Temple and Banni Mantap by utilising the MLA Fund of Rs 2.50 lakh, which the DC had sanctioned. To release the first instalment of Rs 1.75 lakh, Revanasiddappa had allegedly sought Rs 13,000 bribe.
He was arrested along with Rs 8,000 after ACB trapped him following a complaint by Bheemaiah. The raiding team was led by circle inspector Sridhar Doddi. He too has been sent in judicial custody.
