Bodies handed over to elder son after legal formalities

The elderly couple, who was found murdered in Mount Kailash apartment in south Delhi on January 26, were cremated by their elder son on Friday.

Amit Khaneja, who is settled in the United States was unable to reach Delhi at the earliest as he was stuck in a snow storm in Florida.

However, he reached Delhi on Thursday night.

The bodies were preserved in the AIIMS mortuary after the post-mortem.

After the legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to Mr. Khaneja.

Juvenile in shelter home

“The cremation was done at the Lodhi crematorium. The accused have been sent to jail and the juvenile is in shelter home. We have recovered the booty and it will be a watertight case. The chargesheet will be filed at the earliest,” said a senior police officer.

The deceased were identified as 78-year-old Virender Kumar Khaneja, who retired as a senior manager with a multinational consumer goods company, and his 72-year-old wife Sarla Khaneja.

Their semi-decomposed bodies were recovered from their three-bedroom apartment on January 26. Their bodies were discovered after a distant relative called the police control room claiming that the senior citizens had gone “missing”.

They were murdered on January 18, said the police.
