Responding to a woman who tweeted about seeing Denzel Curry watch the video on a flight, the rapper wrote, "that s—t was funny" alongside a crying laughing emoji
Air New Zealand has pulled its $2.5 million “It’s Kiwi” safety video from flights after a public outcry about the quality of the rap and music featured within it, according to Stuff.co.nz.
Set to the tune of “It’s Tricky” by Run DMC, the video includes some of the country’s most well-known rappers, including Kings, Randa and Theia, local outlet News.au reports.
Ahead of the video’s release, Air New Zealand’s head of brand and content marketing described it as, “by Kiwis for Kiwis,” according to Stuff.

“In New Zealand, we do really well with promoting our landscapes, but this video’s about actually bringing to life urban centres and communities; getting to the heartbeat and showing the breadth and depth of talent. As well as what people do in their daily lives and to celebrate,” she continued.
The 4:30 rap includes instructions for an emergency landing, like “Business premiere, I see you folks are working. Sit up straight, hands on thighs, feet to floor it’s just like twerking.”
It also requests that in the event of a water landing, passengers make sure their life jacket “is tight like my awesome safety raps and fefers to turbulence as getting in “a pickle.”
News.au reports the airline announced that the video would stop being in circulation on flights as of the end of day Thursday, local time.

Many critics are saying that the actual reason for the roll back, however, is the very public negative feedback the video received — including from a few famous American musicians.
Responding to a woman who tweeted about watching rapper Denzel Curry view the video on a recent flight, the Florida-born musician wrote, “that s—t was funny” alongside a crying laughing emoji.

Apparently, actor Donald Glover, who also raps under the name Childish Gambino, didn’t love watching the clip either, according to a tweet from his manager, Chad Taylor.
“Oh god, did we force Donald Glover to watch the terrible airnz safety video,” tweeted one user, to which Taylor, replied, “Yes, yes, you did.”
Chrissy Teigen also weighed in on a chain mocking the video on Twitter, and resurfaced an old safety video for the airline that she appeared in. “I haven’t seen it for so long lollllll,” she captioned the video.
Comedian Nic Sampson weighed in with a unique idea for a replacement video. “I have an idea for the new Air New Zealand safety video. The theme is: an airplane…that is taking off…and the ‘characters’ (could be played by real crew??) must explain the safety procedures succinctly,” he wrote on Twitter.
The airline also had a sense of humor about replacing the video, posting a job listing for a new “Head of Safety Videos.”
It read in part, “Following the phenomenal success of our latest video…(just don’t read the comments online) we’re looking for someone to lead our team in creating our next crowd-pleasing safety demonstration.”
The controversial video is being replaced with the airline’s previous video called “Summer of Safety,” which starred supermodel Rachel Hunter.
