Sydney-bound Virgin plane makes emergency landing at Newcastle Airport
Passengers on a Virgin Australia plane were forced to make an emergency landing at Newcastle Airport on Friday.
The Brisbane to Sydney flight was diverted to the Williamtown airport after a warning light was triggered in the cargo hold.
After a safe landing, emergency services met the plane on the tarmac.
"Virgin Australia flight VA938 has landed safely after diverting this afternoon following the activation of warning light," a Virgin Australia spokesperson said.
"The aircraft was met by emergency services as a precautionary measure.
"The safety of our guests and crew is our number one priority and we will be commencing a full investigation into the incident.
"We will be working hard to have all guests to their destination as soon as possible."
The emergency landing was not expected to delay scheduled services in and out of Newcastle Airport.
