A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday orally observed that the incident where a woman IPS officer had the courage to conduct a raid on the district office of the ruling party was indicative of the fact that proper administration of rule of law prevailed in the State.
The Bench, headed by Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy, made the observation while dismissing as withdrawn a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking to restrain the State government from initiating any disciplinary action against IPS officer Chaithra Teresa John, who had raided the CPI(M) district office in Thiruvananthapuram in search of party workers who attacked the Medical College police station.
The petition was filed by Public Eye, a Kochi-based organisation.
Action against officer
The petition said soon after the incident, the police officer was relieved of her additional charge and an inquiry was ordered against her by the Additional Director General of Police, South zone.
The Chief Minister and CPI(M) leaders had flayed the action of the officer.
The court asked what was the basis for the petition when the police officer did not face any disciplinary action.
As no action had been initiated against her so far, the filing of the petition was premature, the court observed orally.
In view of the court’s views, the petitioner sought to withdraw the petition.
