In the 5-years of Narendra Modi rule, the government extended benefits for individual taxpayers in the initial years by increasing the deduction limits for housing loan interest, health insurance and transport allowance. But, salaried taxpayers did not have much to cheer about as the government introduced standard deduction while taking away benefits for transport allowance and medical reimbursement. However, as the general election is just few months away, will govt tweak tax slabs to lure voters?
