MUMBAI: The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, which has run into land acquisition hurdles, received an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore on Friday. A National High Speed Rail Corporation official said, “A substantial part will be used to pay land compensation. Some will also be spent on shifting utilities and a preliminary survey.”
For the bullet train project, the budget document states that the progress is as per schedule and the ground survey has been completed. “The process of land acquisition has been initiated. Standards, specifications and alignment have been finalised. Out of the 26 tender packages, four have been awarded, eight will be awarded in 2018-19 and balance in 2019-20,” it states
In Maharashtra, 353 hectares of land is to be acquired in 108 villages. Nearly 155km of corridor will pass through the state and have stations at BKC, Thane and Boisar. The land acquisition was to be completed by December 2018 but only five people have given consent. So far, only 9.29 hectares of land has been acquired in Bhiwandi. The first trial run of the train will be carried out between Billimora and Surat before August 15, 2022, even if the corridor is not completed.
