A 22-year-old woman has alleged that an acid attack attempt was made at her by two bike-borne men on Thursday morning in South Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar. The men on the bike had threatened her to withdraw a rape case that she had slapped against one Asif alias Arif, she alleged. Police have registered a case and begun probe.
A senior officer privy to the case said the woman, a resident of Dakshinpuri and employee of a private company in Badarpur, was on her way to work when the incident happened. “When she crossed a government school near her house, her scooty broke down. Suddenly, two men came on a motorcycle and threw acid in her direction,” the officer said.
Empty bottle found
When police reached the spot, they found an empty bottle of toilet cleaner with liquid spread on the road. “The woman alleged that the men asked her to withdraw the rape case she had slapped against Asif alias Arif or else the acid will be thrown on her face next time,” the officer said.
Police said the woman had alleged that she was raped by the accused after which a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Kalkaji police station this month.
Based on a complaint submitted by the woman on Thursday, police have registered a case under Section 195A (threatening any person to give false evidence), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), and 34 (common intension) of the IPC. “Efforts are being made to arrest the suspects,” the officer said.
