World’s Most Famous Ferrari F40 LM Expected To Fetch Millions

Everyone knows that the Ferrari F40 is one of the most special supercars in the history of the automobile but you know what’s more special? The racing LM version of course.

This is perhaps the most recognizable Ferrari F40 LM in the world, chassis No.74045, finished in French Racing Blue, which will be offered in RM Sotheby’s Paris Auction on February 6.

It’s one of the just 19 F40s developed and constructed by Michelotto to either LM or Competizione spec, featuring bigger IHI turbochargers and intercoolers, an advanced Weber-Marelli fuel injection system, upgraded brakes, a race-spec transmission, an extensively modified bodywork, as well as all the necessary chassis stiffening work. Power is estimated to have increased to over 700hp, up from the standard 471hp.

Chassis No.74045 is also the third F40 produced by Ferrari, which used it extensively as a pre-production prototype before getting sent to Michelotto by its first post-Ferrari owner.

It has a long and illustrious racing history, which includes two times at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995 and 1996 (finishing 12th overall and sixth in the GT1 class in 1995), a win at the 1995 Anderstorp 4 Hours, and multiple finishes at the Global GT Series.

Described to be in top condition, it’s ready to participate in vintage racing events, including of course the Club GT Competizioni, Ferrari’s official program.

The Ferrari F40 LM will be accompanied by its original gearbox and a set of spare wheels, representing a must-have opportunity for serious Ferrari collectors. The price estimate is between 4.5 to 5.5 million euros ($5.1 to $6.3 million in current exchange rates).
