HUBBALI: The city police are still clueless about a gang of dacoits who struck the house of a pharmacy owner and murdered him in Rajnagar last week.
A gang of five-six armed dacoits wearing masks had barged into Venkanna Banavi’s house on January 22. The gang tied up Venkanna and his wife and assaulted him, killing him on the spot. They later ransacked the hose and fled with cash and valuables worth Rs 11.15 lakh. Sources said the gang ate bananas at the house and were speaking in Hindi.
The incident at an upmarket area like Rajnagar sent shock waves among citizens. Senior citizens are now disappointed that no arrests have been made even so far. It is said that police still do not have any clues about the dacoits. Sources said the accused are part of an inter-state gang and that police were finding it difficult to confirm if they are the same gang that operated from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Sources added that the dacoits were still in the state and police were tracking their movements. Police are likely to arrest them before they get out of the state, they added.
Four teams of police officers have been formed to investigate the dacoity case and police teams have already visited Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to dig up more information about the dacoits based on information given by eve witnesses and finger prints collected from the crime scene. While one team is searching for them in Bengaluru, another team is likely to be dispatched to Goa, said a source.
An officer said, “It is very difficult to nab the dacoits if they get holed up in hide outs in Madhya Pradesh. Based on sketches prepared using description given by eve witnesses, we are gleaning information of these dacoits by visiting other states and in the state as well.”
Ravindra Gadadi, DCP (Law and Order) told TOI, “Our teams are investigating the case in different angles and are also inquiring members of suspected gangs. We don’t want to share more details as it may alert the culprits to change their hide outs and give a slip to police. But, we are sure that we will soon nab these dacoits and solve the case at the earliest.”
