PM to inaugurate RUSA projects for SP College

PUNE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will digitally inaugurate various projects approved under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) to Sir Parashurambhau (SP) College, on Sunday. Apparently, SP College was one of the 25 institutions of higher education that has received the status of 'Autonomous College' in the country, in January, this year. A digital launch will be transmitted at Lady Ramabai Hall in SP College on Sunday.

The college has received a fund of Rs 5 crore from RUSA under the project 'Enhancing quality and excellence in select autonomous colleges.'

College Principal Dilip Sheth informed that the grants will be primarily used to renovate and upgrade the existing infrastructure, developing an eco-friendly campus, enhancing research facilities and others.

The college has established ‘Entrepreneurship Cell’ to promote entrepreneurship, with the help Rs 50 lakh funds granted for it. This will create the ecosystem for entrepreneurs through awareness drive, mentoring, start-up culture and networking of industries-research institute.

“For example, there are several studies under social science and sociology courses in which many social issues are highlighted. We will try to bring students together and come out with solutions under start-ups,” said Sheth.

Also, the skill hub of the college aims to develop personal qualities like self-reliance, resilience, self-awareness etc. The objective is to make the students job ready through employability skills and offering sepcialised skills.

“The college will also offer on-demand learning opportunities wherein sandwich courses of different streams will be introduced to students. This will focus on their overall development as per the industry requirement,” stated Chairman of the College Development Committee, Satish Pawar.
