MANGALURU: Underworld don Ravi Pujari, who has been reportedly detained in Senegal, is wanted in more than 30 cases in Mangaluru.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, city police commissioner TR Suresh said: “Our team has been regularly tracking Pujari’s phone calls. For the past six months, we have been updating probe agencies about Pujari’s movements on a day-to-day basis.”

“The extortionist is wanted in several cases here, including, 2008 HML extortion case, Naushad murder case, 2009, and a case related to Bharathi Builders and Developers, 2014,” he said.

“The first red-corner notice against the fugitive gangster was issued from Mangaluru in July 2012 and it was renewed in 2017. Cases against him are at different stages of investigation and some are pending trial,” Suresh added.

Our govt played significant role in nabbing Ravi Pujari: HD Kumaraswamy

Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said the arrest of the don, wanted for many crimes in the state, was effected due to the 'sustained efforts' of state government officers, with the assistance of the central government and officials of the Indian Embassy at Senegal.

“We are yet to receive any official communication about his extradition to India,” he said.

Born in Malpe Kalmadi of Udupi district, Pujari discontinued his studies and shifted to Mumbai in his teens. He started his criminal career at a dance bar in Mumbai where he met all the gangsters. On the run for over 15 years, Pujari spent most of his time in Dubai and Australia.
