Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Pulwama following information about presence of terrorists in the area, a police official said.
He said a gun battle ensued as the terrorists opened fire at the security forces.
Two militants were gunned down, the official said, adding that they were identified as Shahid Ahmad Baba and Aniyat Ahmad Ziger, both affiliated to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
While is a resident of Drabgam, Pulwama and is a native of Arihal in Pulwama. Both the terrorists were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit JeM and Baba was wanted by the law for his complicity in terror crimes, police said.
As per police records, Shahid Baba was active in Shopian and Pulwama areas and had a long history of terror crime records for which several cases were registered against him. He was involved in conspiring and executing several terror attacks on security establishments in the area including grenade attacks.
Inayat was an active supporter of terror activities of JeM for a long time but joined the outfit as active cadre very recently.
Due to the efforts of security forces, it was a clean operation and no collateral damage took place during the encounter, officials said. The security forces have also recovered one self-loading rifle and one pistol.
Police have requested civilians not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
