Kanpur: A youth and his family members were allegedly assaulted by a gang of hoodlums for resisting their attempt to forcibly enter the house of his neighbouring girl with an intention to molest her late on Wednesday night in Gwaltoli area of the city.
The goons also indulged in brick-batting and indiscriminate firing, sources in the area said. A case has been registered and investigations were underway, police said.
The incident occurred at Khalasi Line locality in Gwaltoli police area kate on Wednesday night. Twelve people armed with hockeys and sticks arrived at a girl’s house at around 1 am. The girl was alone in the house while her parents and siblings had gone to their relatives place.
“When they allegedly started knocking the doors of her house, one Vishal, who stays in the neighbourhood, resisted them following which they attacked him and his mother. Some other locals who came out for help were also assaulted,” the police said and added the goons also resorted to brick-batting that damaged the windscreens of cars parked in the area.
The police, however, said that the allegation of firing by the goons is yet to be substantiated.
The police added that a case was registered on Thursday against the accused who are on the run. “Vishal and his mother, besides two other members of his family are undergoing treatment at a hospital and a case has been registered against the goons. Raids are underway to arrest the hoodlums,” said Inspector Gwaltoli Ramesh Chandra Mishra.
