A 28-year-old man, involved in eight criminal cases and a member of Jojo gang, has been arrested for allegedly extorting money at gunpoint from a businessman in Central Delhi, police said on Thursday. A country made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from him.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said the accused has been identified as Keshav Kakkar alias Vishal, a resident of Karol Bagh’s Bapa Nagar and an alleged member of a Jojo gang.
Police said they received a complaint on November 2018 in which the complainant said that he runs a garment shop on Tank Road and the accused entered his shop and demanded ₹2 lakh at gunpoint.
Thrashed complainant
“He extorted ₹1.5 lakh and threatened that he would come again to collect the remaining amount. On December 11, he returned and thrashed the complainant when the victim showed his inability to pay,” Mr. Randhawa said.
The accused, police said, returned the next day but the complainant wasn’t present there. Therefore, he thrashed the workers and took away ₹3 lakh from the shop.
Involved in many cases
During investigation, it was revealed that the accused was involved in several cases of extortion, murder, attempt to murder and robbery. He was arrested on a tip-off from Prasad Nagar on Wednesday, Mr. Randhawa said adding that a country made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from him. The accused allegedly admitted to his involvement in the extortion case on Tank Road and also revealed that he is an active member of a Jojo gang and after Jojo was arrested, he started running the gang. “He spent most of the extorted money on his accomplices and friends. He spent plenty of money to fulfil his girlfriend’s wishes,” the officer said.
