Inspector Vijaykumar said Rachael Jennifer has been booked for cheating, impersonation and forgery. “She was arrested from Neelangarai and remanded in Puzhal prison on Tuesday,” he said.
Vijaykumar told TOI that Rachael had submitted photocopies of her fake certificates to the company when she had applied for the job.
The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by Selvakumar, state head officer of GVK EMRI. He said Rachael’s forgery came to light when her certificates were checked during a surprise verification drive.
The issue was brought to the attention of Teynampet and Injambakkam police by P Balaji, an RTI activist and advocate.
In a press meet, Balaji alleged that a former state minister’s son was instrumental in getting a job for Rachael. Police said no action has been initiated against anyone other than Rachael in this case.
Rachael Jennifer, 30, was working as a doctor in the emergency room for the past one year.
In her resume, she claimed to have an MBBS degree from Kuppam medical college which is affiliated to the Dr NTR University of Health Sciences.
TOI had accessed case sheets where she had signed as the Emergency Care Centre (ECC) physician, who is the first point of contact for patients who avail emergency services.
The 108 emergency ambulance services comes under the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project (TNHSP) of the state government.
TNHSP project director Uma Maheshwari has asked GVK EMRI for an explanation.
