BENGALURU: A portion of Sirsi Circle flyover which had been closed for maintenance work will be thrown open to traffic on Monday, a week behind the deadline that the BBMP had earlier set for itself.
One half of the flyover’s carriageway, that’s carrying vehicles from Town Hall towards Mysuru Road, had been closed completely for maintenance from January 1.
With the reopening of this part of road, the other half of the carriageway — which carries traffic heading from Mysuru Road towards the city — will be closed from Wednesday.
BBMP chief engineer (projects-central) KT Nagraj said asphalting work on the flyover from Town Hall ramp side and towards Royan Circle has been completed. “From Tuesday evening, we began allowing traffic from Town Hall side up to Royan Circle. From Monday, the flyover will be open till Mysuru Road,” he said.
The work on the other half of the flyover carriageway may take another month and motorists will have to bear with some trouble till the first week of March, Nagaraj said.
Diversions from Wednesday
Traffic will be diverted in view of the flyover being closed for vehicles from RR Nagar towards the city from Wednesday.
While vehicles heading towards the city will have to use the road below the flyover, those moving towards Goodshed Road can take the flyover road.
The flyover maintenance work includes milling the existing surface and laying tar sheet (asphalt seal pad made of atactic polypropylene polymer) before starting asphalting work. The tar sheet technology will prevent formation of potholes as it won’t allow water stagnation. The tar sheet is 3mm thick and 16,000sqm of the tar sheet is being laid on the 2.4-km flyover. The BBMP is spending Rs 4.5 crore for flyover works.
