AHMEDABAD: City police on Friday held a 45-year-old woman for bootlegging, for allegedly making home deliveries in posh areas of the city such as Satellite, Anandnagar and Prahladnagar.
According to the FIR filed with Satellite police, when cops were patrolling in Satellite on Thursday evening, they got an input that a woman living in Ramdevnagar was involved in delivering IMFL (Indian-made foreign liquor) in Ramdevnagar.
When the cops rushed to the spot where in the woman was delivering liquor, they found a bit suspicious as she was covering her face with a maroon dupatta and wearing a yellow ghaghra choli.
She was found to be carrying miniature liquor bottles in her blouse and a 750ml bottle in her dupatta, as if she was carrying a child. The woman was later identified as Balu Makwana. She had a unique modus operandi, as she would provide miniature bottles first as a sample, and once the customer was satisfied with the quality, she would deliver a full bottle, said an official of Satellite police station.
A police official said Makwana’s loyal customers also visited her house to get liquor on a regular basis. She sourced the liquor from Rajasthan.
Police booked Makwana under prohibition laws and began an investigation to find the others involved in her illegal business.
