Registers increase of 4.38 lakh voters since last year; applications from 97 Indians living abroad included

Over 2.29 lakh women, 2.08 lakh men and 275 members belonging to the third gender joined the latest electoral rolls published on Thursday, taking Tamil Nadu’s electorate to 5.91 crore — an increase of 4.38 lakh voters since last year.

Voters in the age group of 30-39 years form the largest section of the total electorate — 1,38,55,913. A total of 1,27,568,64 are in the age group of 40-49 years and 1,18,37,274 in the 20-29 age group. There were 8,98,759 new entrants (18-19 years) to the electoral rolls, chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo told reporters.

Sholinganallur in Kancheepuram district continues to be the largest Assembly constituency with 6,18,695 voters, including 3.11 lakh men, 3.07 women and 75 from the third gender. Likewise, Harbour Assembly constituency has the lowest electorate with 1,66,515 voters. “Tirupparankundram Assembly constituency has 7,696 voters in the 18-19 age group — the highest in the State,” he said. During the inclusion and exclusion process since the publishing of the draft electoral rolls on September 30, 2018, about 14.29 lakh applications for inclusion of names were received, of which 13.96 lakh were accepted. Applications from 97 Indians living abroad were also included.

“A total of 5,62,937 entries were deleted due to deaths, double entries and shifting of the voters,” he said, and added that over 2.19 lakh applications submitted for corrections in details of the Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) were accepted.

The electoral rolls published on Thursday by District Election Officers can also be checked online at http://elections.tn.gov.in.

Fresh applications

For fresh applications for inclusion of names (in case of the applicant completing 18 years as on January 1, 2019) one can approach the election officers concerned or apply through www.nvsp.in.
