Patosi departs Cape Town City, joins Esteghlal FC

2019-02-01 07:22

Cape Town - Cape Town City have confirmed the departure of Ayanda Patosi, with the Khayelitsha-born player agreeing a deal with Iranian outfit Esteghlal FC.

Patosi, 26, joined the Citizens from Belgian side KSC Lokeren in the 2017 off-season and went on to make 25 appearances in all competitions in his first season in the Mother City.

While his departure does appear to come out of the blue, the club have revealed that a move back overseas had always been on the cards.

Confirming the news on Twitter, the club posted the following statement: "We would like to express best wishes in the next step for Ayanda.

"When we signed Patosi from Belgium in 2017, a move back overseas was always part of our commitment to the player.

"During his two seasons at the club Ayanda made significant contributions with two back to back cup finals and the MTN8 Cup trophy this season. He has a special connection with the club and its supporters.

"We wish Ayanda well in his new journey overseas and we look forward to welcoming one of our own back in Cape Town soon."

Meanwhile, City have also revealed that Allan Kateregga has joined Maritzburg United on a six month loan deal.
