The Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the importance given to infrastructure development.
The proposal for the 515-km high-speed rail track costing ₹55,000 crore is an ambitious project. “We welcome the decision to commence construction of high-speed Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod railway track this year”, said a statement from the chamber.
The focus on the promotion of electric buses by the KSRTC and the tax exemptions to electric vehicles are also welcome. On the social front, the allocation to the Santhwanam project to assist NRIs who lost jobs, the focus on drinking water projects, the Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme, the Integrated Health Insurance Scheme envisaged, and the ₹260 crore for Employment Generation Schemes are welcome, the statement said. The chamber also welcomed the decision to set three rice parks and to establish the Kochi-Coimbatore industrial corridor.
