The pro-Left Democratic Front faction of the Communist Marxist Party (CMP) will merge with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] at a convention at QAC Maidan here on February 3.
‘‘The merger is unconditional," said CMP Polit Bureau member M.H. Shariyar and N. Vijyan Pillai, MLA, at a press conference here on Thursday.
Mr. Shariyar said the party was formed 33 years ago due to the political situation then and even M.V. Raghavan, the founder of the party, would have wanted the merger had he been alive. ‘‘All the 14 district committees of the CMP wholeheartedly supported the decision,’’ he said.
Rubbishing the reports that the merger may be followed by the induction of Chavara MLA N. Vijayan Pillai into the Cabinet, he said the CMP did not put forward any conditions. ‘‘Reports that the merger is for ministership are totally baseless,’’ he said.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the merger conference which will be attended by over 6,000 party workers. CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and M.V. Nikesh Kumar will participate.
