The Gautam Budh Nagar police have revealed that they are receiving more complaints against the station house officer who was caught red-handed along with three journalists taking extortion money from the owner of a call centre to get his name removed from an FIR. Police have also stated that the four accused have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
On Wednesday, a station house officer and three journalists associated with different news networks were arrested by Noida police for demanding a bribe of Rs 8 lakhs from a call centre owner to get his name removed from an FIR. Police had recovered Rs 8 lakh cash, a Mercedes and a pistol from accused. Police said that the Sector 20, SHO Manoj Pant and three journalists tried to flee when arrest was attempted. The deal was fixed in the room of the SHO and the accused were arrested red- handed while taking the bribe money. Additional SHO has been suspended till further inquiry.
"After the arrest, we have got several complaint against Pant which we are verifying on. After Pant was caught he tried hitting the table and even tried to flee away. The one person who managed to flee away is absconding at the moment and we are trying to nab him. Following which we might get more leads against illegal activities done for Pant," said Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of police (Gautam Budh Nagar).
He further stated that the call centre in which the owner was asked pay Rs 8 lakhs for getting his name removed from the FIR is not operational at the moment, while the person who gave us this tip off has stay on his arrest.
Following the arrest the IPS association has also congratulated Vaibhav Krishnan by tweeting " Kudos to #IPS Vaibhav Krishna on your expose that led to arrest of an inspector & 3 journalists conniving to extort money from a call center owner for removing his name from an FIR. #CleanupSystem"
Krishnan further said that they are not going to go easy on the police personal who are defaming the name of police and misusing their powers.
