Ratings season started barely a week ago and things are already heating up between rival television networks.
So much so that Channel Seven has boldly moved My Kitchen Rules to a new 7pm timeslot to compete with Nine's more popular Married At First Sight, which airs at 7.30pm.
The shift has not gone unnoticed by Nine executives, with the network's Director of Programming Hamish Turner telling TV Tonight on Thursday: 'They are saying it's because of the cricket but strategically I think they want to get in before MAFS.'

He added: 'It was a surprise, but in some ways not surprising.'
Shifting MKR earlier to 7pm makes sense given that MAFS has been dominating the ratings, drawing 955,000 viewers in the five capital cities this week.
MKR by contrast drew 814,000 viewers - 141,000 less than MAFS.

Indeed, the producers of My Kitchen Rules have good reason to be worried about the future of the show.
By Tuesday night, the long-running cooking show was losing some of its most loyal viewers.
Many took to Twitter to express their disapproval over what they considered to be 'fake and manufactured drama'.

One person tweeted: 'I don't think I'll be finishing MKR this year.
'They've dialled the already stupid level of drama up even more. So exhausting watching this program now.'
Another wrote: 'MKR, I am disappointed! From the promo ads leading up to tonight it looked like you had learnt from the drama and bullying of last year... apparently not.'

Another viewer tweeted: 'MKR insists on manufacturing drama around the dinner table... It's not called My B***hing Rules? I beg to differ.'
