Eight children die in Udaipur hospital in two days

UDAIPUR: Eight children, who were admitted to the 'bal chikitsalaya' (children's hospital) at the government Maharana Bhupal Hospital campus, died in a short span of two days. According to hospital authorities, the increase in inflow of patients over the past few days coupled with extreme weather conditions may have caused the fatalities. The eight children died in the ICU in two days.

‘Eight kids succumbed in two days’

According to sources, 17 kids were under treatment for critical illnesses at the ICU and on January 28, Thirteen more kids were admitted to the hospital. These kids were admitted to the A, B and C units of the children’s hospital and later shifted to the intensive care unit on Monday night after their condition deteriorated. As per hospital records, eight kids succumbed to illnesses in two days. Five of them, who died in ICU, were cases referred from Sarada block; one each from Dungarpur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh and Rajsamand; while remaining kids were from Gogunda, Goverdhan Vilas, and Girva. “Of the four kids, who died on January 28, two were just one and three months old while a four-yearold and 12-year-old kid died due to other illnesses,” said Dr Lakhan Poswal of MB Hospital.
