JALANDHAR: A leopard strayed into Lama Pind area of Jalandhar on Thursday and it took around five hours to bolt it inside a house. Forest and Wild Department officials said that it apparently strayed from hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh. As people gathered and there was a lot of noise and some persons pelted brick-bats on it, which panicked the leopard and it attacked four persons who received some gashes.
It was at around 12 in the noon that the leopard was first spotted in a house and then it entered in a plot with boundary and roof. As Wildlife Department officials and personnel tried to catch it in the afternoon using a net, it managed to escape after jumping over a wildlife personnel who fell from the wall but escaped major injuries.
After escaping from there, the leopard moved around in the streets and was looking for a place to hide. It then went towards the fields. As a lot of local residents gathered and there was a lot of chaos which further stressed the animal.
Later, police had to block the streets to stop people from crowding the narrow lanes of the area.
Around 5pm, the leopard entered in a house where it was cornered and a sedative was also injected. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Khushwinder Singh Gill said that the leopard had been cornered and they were now exploring option how to capture it in a cage, which had already been brought there. "It apparently strayed from the hills of Himachal Pradesh and then after passing through fields of district Hoshiarpur it reached Jalandhar," he added.
