As part of its concerted efforts to achieve better results in the upcoming SSC public examinations, the district administration has charted out a plan to provide mini-snacks to around 8,905 SSC students of the State-run and aided schools across the district.
The plan is intended to help SSC students who attend special classes, prior or after the school hours, to replenish their energy levels and help them stay focused on their studies ahead of the SSC exams, slated to be held in March this year.
The School Education Department has already initiated a slew of measures like conducting special classes and preparatory tests to boost the confidence levels of students and enable them perform well in the ensuing exams.
The move was necessitated in the backdrop of the relatively poor performance of the district in SSC exams last year. The district slipped to 20th place from 13th the previous year.
A combination of factors including inadequacies in supervisory mechanism, particularly shortage of regular MEOs and unfilled Deputy DEO posts, among others, were believed to have contributed to the dismal performance last year.
After being apprised of the last year’s situation by the officials concerned, the present Collector, R.V. Karnan, recently released ₹24.9 lakh from Crucial Balancing Fund (CBF) towards provision of mini-snacks to students, sources said.
Mini-snacks would be provided to SSC students of all government and aided schools during special classes in their respective schools across the district till March 10, said District Educational Officer Madanmohan.
