NEW DELHI: A five-judge Supreme Court bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi will hear on February 6 petitions seeking review of the apex court’s September 28 order striking down the traditional ban on entry of women in the age group of 10-50 years into the Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala in Kerala.
The hearing on January 22 was postponed because of medical leave taken by Justice Indu Malhotra, the lone woman judge on the five-judge bench and who penned a dissent and upheld the ban on the ground that matters of faith and belief could not tested on the touchstone of constitutional rights.
The Supreme Court notified on Thursday that the constitution bench comprising CJI Gogoi and Justices R F Nariman, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Malhotra will commence hearing on the review petitions.
A few contempt applications, pending in the SC, will also be heard along with the review petitions.
