HYDERABAD: As part of the ‘coins for the country’ initiative, students of the Silver Oaks International School collected 18 lakh which will be donated to two NGOs — Rural development Fund and Needy Illiterate Children’s Education — to support education of underprivileged students.

According to a press release issued by the school on Wednesday, this was the highest amount collected by the students since 2013-14. While the students had collected 7.56 lakh in 2013-14, the amount rose to 18 lakh during academic year 2018-19. “Coins for the country is a corporate social responsibility initiative by the Silver Oaks International School which has raised more than 1 crore in the last 12 years. The students run home libraries, book sales, perform household chores and win competitions to earn money. They also save from their pocket money or gifts from family,” read the press release.

From kindergarten to Class 12, almost 2,500 students save money from August to January. “It teaches students the concept of saving and also helping the society at large,” said Seetha Murthy, director education of Silver Oaks.
