A man has died after he got caught in a rip and drowned at a beach near the NSW and Queensland border.
The 36-year-old was swimming with a group at Brunswick Main Beach, north of Byron Bay, when he got into trouble late on Thursday morning, Surf Life Saving NSW said in a statement.
A pair of surfers, who were alerted by a friend, pulled the unconscious man out of the water and paddled him to shore but he was unable to be revived.
