A 46 year-old Santacruz resident has filed a Right To Information (RTI) application at Khar police station in order to get an updated status of the police investigation in connection with the kidnapping of his 18-year-old daughter.
The father, who is planning to approach the Bombay High Court seeking its intervention, had lodged a missing complaint on October 17 after his daughter, Aarti (name changed) went missing from RD National College, Bandra.
Aarti, a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor's in Information Technology, resided at Santacruz East with her parents and a sibling. Her father, who runs a steel and aluminium business, used to drop her to college daily at 10.30 am and pick her up at 4.30 pm. On October 17, as per usual, he dropped her but when he came to pick her up, she was nowhere to be found.
"I checked with the security guard, the teachers and Aarti's friends. But I had to lodge a complaint at Khar police station hwen I couldn't find her anywhere," Aarti's father told DNA. "Months have passed and my daughter has not been traced. Only I know what my family is going through. The police have gathered all sorts of papers but without any result. I have filed an RTI to get an updated status of the case investigation," he said.
Police sources claimed that Aarti had met a 20-year-old man, Armaan Khan, on social media. Khan, also from Santacruz, had called up Aarti 15 days before she went missing but Aarti's father answered the phone and had an argument with him. Khan was later named as a suspect but there was no evidence against him. On October 17, Aarti's handbag and cell phone were recovered inside a local. The call data (CDR) has been scrutinised.
"We the girl planned her escape as she was not on good terms with her family. Her chats with a friend indicate she was unhappy and intended to run away once she was 18. We are still probing and expecting to get some clues, as the case is still under investigation," said a police officer from Khar police station.
