Soon after former Finance Minister and AIIES president Eatala Rajender announced that the Revenue Department would inspect damages, a team of officials arrived at Numaish and began estimating the losses.
The officials spoke to traders whose shops were gutted in the fire and asked them the worth of their stock. They also sought details of what kind of material they had possessed and asked them for identification such as copies of Aadhaar card.
Several traders were in shock and had difficulty in recalling their temporary addresses in Hyderabad and permanent addresses in the States from where they have arrived.
Earlier in the day, traders became restive, converged at the AIIES office and demanded that they be paid compensation. While some were seen waiting for AIIES officials to make an announcement, others entered into arguments with them and questioned the delay. For their part, the officials announced that a list of the business establishments that were affected in the fire has been made, and they would soon initiate measures to compensate them.
A group of leaders later raised slogans against the AIIES and demanded that compensation be paid to traders. However, these slogans quickly died down.
Later in the afternoon, mild tension was palpable after an unidentified man allegedly made provocative remarks. He was swiftly intercepted and whisked away in a police car.
A bevy of political leaders and workers associated with parties visited the Numaish grounds. A CLUES team also arrived at the spot and began the investigation.
The Numaish will remain closed on Friday.
