Richmond Region Tourism to introduce new tourism promotional initiative

It all started in 2017 when Richmond Region Tourism convened a collection of community members to assist in developing an exclusive way to draw tourism that celebrates the Black culture of Richmond. The effort is headed by Enjoli Moon, founder of the Afrikana Independent Film Festival and Assistant Curator of Film at the ICA, and includes representation from the Elegba Folklore Society, Black RVA, Untold RVA, Preservation Virginia, the Black History Museum, The Valentine, Library of Virginia, Venture Richmond, the American Civil War Museum, National Park Service and more.

 

To quote Moon, “We’re excited to offer a host of unique and compelling travel experiences to visitors that not only highlight the complex history and heritage of Richmond but also celebrate the vibrant culture Black RVA has to offer.”

 

In the last several months, organizers have set up a name and concept for the effort, which will be declared when the campaign starts this summer. The effort will focus on the following:
