Andhra Pradesh: Assuring to solve nightmares, godman sexually assaults woman

Representative imageVIJAYAWADA: Cops arrested a fake godman for allegedly attempting to rape a distressed woman who sought his help for ‘divine intervention’ from him at Jaggaiahpet town in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
The accused was identified as Syed Bilal who runs a treatment centre in the town. According to Jaggaiahpet police, they received a complaint from a woman who alleged that Bilal sexually assaulted her in the name of ‘special prayer’ and tying amulets for evil effects.
When the woman along with her husband from Sher Mohammad Pet village approached him on January 26 complaining that she was suffering from nightmares in her sleep for the past few months, Bilal told her that he would energize a talisman and told her to come alone on Sunday and claimed that it would solve her nightmares.
However, the woman came to the place on Sunday with her husband. Infuriated, Bilal abused her and asked her husband to wait outside and took her inside his room and asked her to remove her clothes claiming that the talisman will work only on ‘bare body’. Shocked and afraid, the woman refused and soon, Bilal allegedly attacked her and tried to assault him.
Upon hearing her screams, people reached the spot while he fled the premises through the back door. Cops managed to trace and arrest him on Tuesday. A rape case was booked against him at Jaggaiahpet police station and Bilal was produced before the local court which sent him to judicial remand.
Sources said that Bilal was a habitual offender and has various complaint against him in the past.
