Woman robbed at knife point, thrown out of auto in North East Delhi

A 24-year-old woman who boarded an auto rickshaw from Kashmere Gate while returning home from work, was robbed at knife point and thrown out of the moving auto near Shastri Park area of North east Delhi on Sunday night. Police suspect the role of an organised gang while they have detained the auto driver and his seized his vehicle. Police said the woman escaped with injuries.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 9:30 pm when the victim, a resident of Yamuna Vihar, and boarded a sharing auto from Kashmere Gate metro station.

The victim in her complaint stated that four men were already sitting in the auto, two of them were sitting in front with the driver, all posing as other passengers.

"She said that as soon as the auto crossed Yamuna Bridge near Shastri Park, the two men sitting on the rear seat started misbehaving with her. As she asked them to stop, they attempted to snatch the bag she was carrying. Showing braveness she fought back, the two men unzipped her bag and took out her mobile phone," said a senior police officer.

The complainant further said that there was heavy traffic on the road when she was being robbed. She tried to raise an alarm but in the meantime the auto driver slowed down the vehicle and the other men pushed her out of the moving auto.

"The woman sustained injury in her leg. She rushed back home and called police. A case of robbery has been registered. We have identified the accused while have also detained an auto driver and have seized his vehicle," said Deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Atul Thakur.

Police said that they suspect the role of an organised gang behind the robbery who pose as auto driver and passengers to rob commuters.

Police said they showed pictures of some criminals of the area but the woman could not identify them. Police are now planning to get made sketches of the suspects with the help of the woman. Police are also checking CCTV footages on the route that the accused auto driver took on Monday night, to verify the role of the auto rickshaw.
