Nitten Kirrtane wins double crown in Chennai

Pune: Top seeded Nitten Kirrtane chalked up a glorious weekend at Mylapore Club in Chennai as the Pune-based former Davis Cupper won a double crown at the 13th TS Santhanam Senior National Tennis Championship held from January 20-26.

Kirrtane won both singles and doubles title in contrasting styles—winning the singles against wildcard Gustavo Perziano, who gave walkover, while in the doubles Kirrtane paired up with Ragesh Ganapathy to beat the duo of Cader Rameez Samad and Vijay Venkatesh 6-4, 6-1.

The Railways player then charted out an easy road to the final with an identical 6-1, 6-0 wins in the first and second rounds.

In the quarterfinals, Kirrtane thrashed No 5 seed Suresh Kumar Paul of Karnataka 6-0, 6-0 before taking out the seventh seeded Cader Rameez Samad of Tamil Nadu 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
