1. MAYOR, POLICE CHIEF WANT SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS

Money for surveillance cameras along city streets was cut for the fiscal 18 budget. After last week's shooting on South Main Street, officials would like to see them. But it's necessary to put funding for future equipment back in the budget.

2. CORREIA, SCOTT-PACHECO FILE CERTIFIED NOMINATION PAPERS

On Monday morning, Mayor Jasiel Correia II had stopped in to sign and file his certified nomination papers in an effort to retain his position. Erica Scott-Pacheco, the director of development for the South Coastal Legal Services in Fall River, was at One Government Center by early afternoon on Monday to file her nomination papers.

3. CLUB AT DIMAN REACHING FOR THE STARS

Diman students who meet up in the after-school Astronomy Club are talking planets, comets, constellations and all of the latest developments in the field of astronomy. The seeds of the club started last year when junior Harmony Duarte decided to turn her lifetime fascination with astronomy into a club where she could learn more about her hobby and share her interest with fellow students like Matt Desroisers, who helped her co-found it.

4. STATE OF THE UNION PLANNED FOR FEB. 5

President Donald Trump on Monday accepted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s invitation to deliver his State of the Union speech on Feb. 5, a week later than originally scheduled because of the partial government shutdown.
