Indore: University Grants Commission (UGC) has revised guidelines for enhancing honorarium of guest faculty in universities and colleges as a result of implementing recommendations of 7th pay commission for regular teachers. As per new guidelines, the university and colleges would have to pay Rs 1500 per lecture to guest faculty but maximum monthly payment should not exceed Rs 50,000.
The guidelines say that the guest faculty will be appointed only against sanctioned post. However, for the universities where the sanctioned posts are not adequate as per the teaching working load, the number of guest faculty to be appointed can be up to 20 percent over and above the sanctioned posts.
The qualification for guest faculty will be same as prescribed for the regular assistant professors of universities/colleges in UGC Regulations. The UGC guidelines clearly states that guest faculty will not be treated like regular teachers for the purpose of voting rights or for becoming the members of various statutory bodies of university.
The guest faculty will not be given allowance, pension, gratuity and leave etc as given to regular teachers. The superannuated teachers may also be considered for engagement as guest faculty subject to a maximum age limit of 70 years.
DAVV will have to double honorarium
In view of new guidelines, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) will have to double the honorarium of guest faculty. At present, DAVV pays Rs 800 per lecture to guest faculty with PhD degrees or coming from industry whereas other candidates are paid Rs 400 per lecture. Besides, university pays maximum of Rs 25,000 to a guest faculty per month. Now, DAVV will have to pay Rs 1500 per lecture for those meeting UGC qualification. The maximum amount paid to a guest faculty will be Rs 50,000 per month.
