Maharashtra: 1200 hectares of forest burned to ashes

NAGPUR: Tribals from Melghat burnt down 1200 hectares of forest after they were not allowed to return to their houses in Melghat forest. In the wake of preservation of natural vegetation, the tribals of Nagarsas, Amona, Barukheda, Dhargad, Kelpani, Somthana and Gullergha in Melghat were relocated to Akot taluk.
The promises made to the tribals were not kept and also they were not given any kind of aid or jobs. Poverty and joblessness forced the tribals to return to their vilages in Melghat.
The police resisted their move, enraged by this the tribals added fire to the gates. Forest department is survelling the forest.
