The fund-raising event ‘Ilayaraja 75’ called by Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) to felicitate music director Ilayaraja is fast running into rough weather with the Madras High Court on Monday directing it to submit details of the expenses incurred and the contracts offered for holding the said event.
Chennai:
However, with TFPC’s counsel insisting that a lot of money has already been spent in organising the event and that stalling the event at this stage would incur loss of money, the Judge directed the counsel to produce the records and adjourned the case to Wednesday.
The petitioner had submitted that the association is conducting the programme in the name of ‘Ilayaraja 75’ only with a view to rectify their appropriation and misappropriation of the association funds without proper deliberation and resolution passed by the Annual General Body.
Noting that the present officer bearers had also spent around Rs 1 crore for arranging the event and that they will raise funds to the tune of Rs 7 crore through this, the petitioner said with these false assurances that the present officer bearers of TFPC had spent the money of the association illegally and hence they should not be allowed to conduct ‘Ilayaraja 75’ without depositing a minimum amount of Rs 7 crores in the accounts of the association.
The plea also sought for the appointment of a retired High Court Judge as administrator for electing the office-bearers and executive committee members and to conduct the General Body elections of the association as per the byelaw of the association after finalising the voters list as per the norms and regulations.
Justice N Anand Venkatesh, before whom the plea moved by J Satish Kumar, proprietor, JSK Film Corporation and TFPC member, seeking to restrain the association from holding ‘Ilayaraja 75’ as scheduled on February 2 and 3 citing technicalities and unilateral move by the office-bearers, sought to know from the TFPC’s counsel as to why the event should not be postponed owing to lack of documentary support on its behalf.
