Kerala Women’s Commission Chairperson M.C. Josephine has said that women should remain alert to financial rackets to which they may fall prey while remarrying. She was speaking after a sitting of the Women’s Commission here on Monday, where cases related to such frauds came to light.
In the cases that came up, the husband and wife were involved in fraudulent financial dealings in some remarriages. She said the government should intervene and take appropriate action in such cases.
While the families undertook serious enquiries in case of first marriages, they do not conduct such enquiries in case of remarriages, and it made people more vulnerable to traps laid by frauds posing as grooms or brides.
Another case that came up during the sitting was that of a woman whose husband’s friends had taken obscene photographs of hers and circulated them through social media.
According to the complaint, the woman’s husband would frequently drink with his friends at home and had been involved in financial dealings with them. The woman said her photographs were shot to take revenge upon her husband who could not keep a financial commitment.
In a complaint from a private school teacher against the management, the Commission has sought explanation from the school authorities.
91 cases
Of the 91 cases that came up during the sitting, 22 were settled, police report sought in 17, RDO’s report sought in two and three cases sent for counselling. Forty-five cases have been set aside for the next sitting.
