A teenage motorbike rider has died after crashing into a car on the M1 at the Gold Coast.

Police said the collision happened on the southbound side of the Pacific Motorway at Elanora about 9.15pm on Monday.

The 17-year-old male motorcyclist died at the scene.

Occupants of the car were not seriously injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit was investigating.
