Maharashtra government releases funds to pay pension for those jailed during emergency

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has released Rs 6 crore to pay pension for those who were jailed during Emergency from June 1975 to March 1977. The cabinet had sanctioned Rs 42 crore for paying pensions to such persons.


The government has identified 619 such persons through collectors in 12 districts across the state. The Government Resolution issued by the General Administration Department states those who spent a month or more in jail will be paid Rs 10,000 per month while those who spent less than a month will be paid Rs 5000 per month. If the person is survived either by husband or wife then the survivor will be paid Rs 5000 per month in the first instance and Rs 2500 in the second instance.


The districts include Pune, Nashik, Raigad, Solapur, Jalgaon, Wardha, Sindhdurga, Gondia, Nandurbar, Hingoli, Bhandara and Latur.
