Hyderabad: Army aspirant electrocuted near venue of recruitment drive

HYDERABAD: An aspirant for a job in the army got electrocuted on the road near the Territorial Army’s Railway Engineer Regiment at Moulali in the city. On the first day of the recruitment drive into the TA, Sai Aravind had reached the venue during the night itself, like thousands of others at the recruitment process was to begin at 5 am.
Around 4 am, Aravind who was a degree student in a BC welfare hostel at Wanaparthy, looked for a place to answer nature’s call. He got on to a mound of sand and debris on the road to cross over to the other side. As his head touched the low hanging electricity wires, he got electrocuted. Malkajgiri police who got information about the incident called 108 ambulance and rushed him to the Gandhi hospital.

“It was clear that Aravind had died on the spot, but was rushed to the hospital with some hope,” a police officer told TOI.


The police also informed Aravind’s parents who came rushing. Aravind’s father is an employee of TS Genco and is from Mulamalla village of Atmakur in Warangal. He lodged a formal written complaint with the police about the incident asking for action to be taken against the agencies responsible for the mishap. Police said a case under section 304A IPC has been booked for causing death by negligence. They will investigate if the electricity department Transco and GHMC are responsible and take appropriate action. According to the section, the guilty can be punished with an imprisonment of two years or fine or with both.


For the recruitment rally in to the Territorial Army, apart from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, aspirants will come from Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Goa States and the Union Territories of Pondicherry, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep. The recruitment rally, which basically comprises physical tests, will continue up to February 3.


Thousands of aspirants have already come and more are on their way for the recruitment to fill vacancies 69 vacancies for solider (general duty) in the 125 Infantry Battalion (TA), and to fill 1 vacancy each for soldier clerk (SD), soldier (hair dresser), soldier (washerman), soldier chef (community), soldier (chef special) and soldier (mess keeper) and 10 vacancies for solider (general duty).


While the individual screening for candidates from Telangana and AP took place on Monday with the checking of their documents and conducing a fitness test for aspirants, screening will be conducted for those from other states from Tuesday.
