Jason Bateman took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series at the 2019 ceremony.
Bateman won this year’s SAG Award for his performance in season two of the Netflix series Ozark, in which he plays a financial advisor who secretly launders money for a Mexican drug cartel.
“I would like to say specifically though to my wife, my two daughters — Amanda, Franny and Maple — without you, none of it would be enjoyable and it probably wouldn’t be possible,” he said as he started to tear up. “I love you more than I even tell you I do, and I’ll be home for kisses so don’t go to bed. Amanda, pop a mint, I’m going to come give you yours in about 5 minutes.”
Bateman beat out Sterling K. Brown for This Is Us, Joseph Fiennes for The Handmaid’s Tale, John Krasinski for Jack Ryan and Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul.

The show’s fans have drawn parallels to Breaking Bad, in which the lead character also gets on the wrong side with a drug cartel. And while Bateman considers the comparisons “flattering,” he told Deadline that he hopes they can get out of the AMC show’s shadow.
“You got a fortysomething-year-old white guy who’s got a family and a very domestic situation and he gets himself involved in a criminal situation in order to provide for his family,” said Bateman, 50. “Hopefully, we separate a bit from that show no better no worse.”
The 25th annual SAG Awards are being presented live on both TBS and TNT from the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
