MADURAI: Several people thronged the office of the chief educational officer (CEO) in Madurai on Monday and submitted their applications for being appointed as temporary teaching staff in government and government-aided schools in the district in the wake of an indefinite strike by teachers.
Sources in the CEO office said they had received hundreds of applications till late in the afternoon and were yet to consolidate the total number of resumes received.
It may be recalled that as several school teachers had not reported for work since last Tuesday due strike, the Tamil Nadu government said that the temporary teachers would be appointed on a consolidated salary of Rs 10,000 per month.
Right from early in the morning, aspiring teachers started gathering at the CEO office to submit their application.
There were confusions among the general public whether their applications would be accepted after news started circulating that there would be no appointment of the temporary teachers on Monday as it was said that the government would wait till evening to see if teachers would give up their protest and report to work. As a result, a handful had even returned without submitting their application. But after the officials started collecting the application, the crowd swelled.
The source though they had collected the applications, they were yet to receive any instruction about the appointment of teachers.
