Unseasonal rains in various parts of integrated Karimnagar district on Friday and Saturday caused extensive damages to various standing crops resulting in huge loss to the farming community.
Though the rains had bought some respite to the farmers who have cultivated paddy, it shattered the dreams of maize and mango growers. The maize crop was completely flattened due to the incessant rains and the mango plants which were fully blooming with flowers were badly damaged in the rains.
Preliminary reports available with the agricultural department say that the maize crop was damaged in over 160 acres in Choppadandi, Gangadhara and Manakondur mandals. Similarly, the maize was also damaged in several hundreds of acres in Jagtial, Rajanna-Sircilla and Peddapalli districts. The fully blooming mango groves which were at flowering stage was damaged badly in Karimnagar, Rajanna-Sircilla and Jagtial districts.
Illanthakunta in Rajanna-Sircilla recorded 7.6 cm rainfall. About 4.6 cm rainfall was recorded in Sarangapur mandal in Jagtial, 4.1 in Boinpalli mandal in Rajanna-Sircilla district. In Karimnagar district, Thimmapur mandal received 5 cm rainfall on Saturday and the district average was 2 cm.
