CHANDIGARH: For the first time, candidates from Chandigarh who will contest in the Lok Sabha-2019 elections will have to appear in a 'written test' before seeking votes from the resident welfare associations of the city.

With the Lok Sabha elections round the corner, both Crawfed and Foswac federations are taking decision on how to get their pending issues resolved.

An executive meeting of Foswac was held on Sunday. A unanimous decision was taken by the RWA's that they would draft a list of all issues which the city residents were facing and each candidate would give a written reply on what action they would take after winning a seat of the Member of Parliament.

Foswac will then take a note on the response of the candidates and will discuss the same with the resident welfare associations and further decide on whom to vote. The final call will be taken by the residents.

Baljinder Singh Bittu, president, Foswac, said they would draft the issues which would be sent to all the contesting candidates for their response. Their response would be reviewed and discussed with the members of the RWAs.

In a recent Crawfed meeting, a decision was taken to constitute a metropolitan development authority (MDA) for the Tricity to chalk out plans for facilities to the public and this would further be mooted up to the Prime Minister.

Issues to be addressed

Paid parking: The MC had imposed paid parking in the city. Foswac has, however, demanded that there should be one paid parking pass for each sector. If a person visits one sector then one slip should be issued to him, which should be applicable for all parking lots in that sector.

Segregation of garbage: Last year, the MC made segregation of garbage to be done by the residents mandatory, but after the protest from the resident welfare associations, the authorities extended the time period. Foswac alleged that the authorities concerned were not prepared for the plan due to which the residents faced the problem.

Allocation of vending zone

The MC is going to allocate a site for the vending zone which will be near the residential areas. The sites were earlier identified by the authorities concerned without taking a note of the objections raised by the resident welfare associations. Foswac has demanded revision of the sites.

CHB need-based changes

The CHB recently notified a policy for the flat-owners in which no relaxation was given to the residents who made changes as per their requirement in their flats. Foswac has demanded that the CHB should consider the demands of the residents and make changes in the notification.

Members of Foswac have decided to shortlist the issues which are affecting majority of the residents.
