SC directs govts to continue efforts to trace miners in Meghalaya

New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Union of India and the Assam Government to continue efforts to trace all the miners believed to be trapped inside a flooded coal mine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district since December 13, 2018.

The order was passed by the top court bench headed by Justice AK Sikri, which posted the matter for further hearing on February 4. “Continue efforts to trace all the miners believed to be trapped inside a flooded coal mine,” the bench said.

The top court was hearing a petition filed by petitioner, Aditya N Prasad, seeking a direction to rescue the miners who have been trapped in an illegal flooded coal mine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills since December 13 last year.
